This photo by Dragan Todorovíc is served best with a poem by Shel Silverstein:
The bridge will only take you halfway there, to those mysterious lands you long to see. Through gypsy camps and swirling Arab fair, and moonlit woods where unicorns run free. So come and walk awhile with me and share the twisting trails and wondrous worlds I’ve known. But this bridge will only take you halfway there. The last few steps you have to take alone.

“One Heart/Million Voice”
New Empire
“It may be over for now.”
This song reminds me of a time when I was 13 years old. On one side of the wall, my mum was in a screaming match with my step-father. On the opposite wall, I sat crying out for a resolution, a part of me lost to my fear of the man towering over me with thunder from his throat.
This song reminds me of a time when I was 15 years old. Locked in my room, my headphones would block out the world that I felt I didn’t deserve to be in. I felt like I was more of a bother than a friend, a part of me lost to the rejection I felt growing up without a Father.
“I’ll be standing at the door and you’ll still look the same.”
And yet, it is not reminiscent of only those things.
This song reminds me of my brothers who sat with me by the wall, the ones who told me it will all be over soon. My brothers believed in my strength when I didn’t know how.
This song reminds me of my mother, who taught me what being strong even meant in the first place. She is the woman who never left and always loved.
This song reminds me of the music that reached out and said “I know how you feel.” This song reminds me of the artists who spilled their heart so I wouldn’t feel alone.
This song reminds me of the people and words that stay.
“One heart with a million voices.”
This song reminds me that we are all in this together. Although our pain is individual, we do not struggle alone. There are millions of people who hurt because their families fell apart. Their pain is real and unique to their own stories, but they do not hurt alone.
They are not a bother. They are a treasure.
“Hold on to it all.”
You are not alone. You are unique. You are not a bother. You are a treasure.
